This is truly the Iconic Kruger National Park Photographic Safari. This package is very popular as it is not long, but long enough to do a decent photographic safari and being able to visit different parts of the park to experience its diversity.
As we specialize in Wildlife Photography, we know that every Photographer has different needs and goals when going on an African Photographic Safari. Thus, here at Wild Photo Africa we will always discuss the plan for the day with our guests and find out what their photographic or safari mission is and we will work accordingly to try and fulfil that wish to the best of our abilities, but of course within reasonable terms.
All our Photographic Safaris are private! This means that you and your party will have full use of the vehicle and photographic guide for the entire day. The Photographic Guide will also devote all his attention and expertise towards you and your party to ensure that you can get the best service possible.
Mornings and late afternoons are the best time for photography, and we usually plan our safaris accordingly so that we are out there at the best times of the day. However, we are flexible and if we have a possible good sighting or we would like to go to another area we adapt and can stay out the whole day. We are there to get those photos and we will do what needs to be done to get them.
Typical Itinerary for the Iconic KNP Photographic Safari
Please note that we do not give an exact itinerary as we would like to give you the best possible chance in getting those images. The reason for this is that depending of the time of the year and weather conditions like rain and droughts, the animals in the park move to different areas and thus we like to book our safari so that we can be in the areas where the action happens. Accommodation availability and client’s preferences also play a role. Once you confirm your dates of visiting us we will go ahead and plan your safari and take all of this into account and present you with the itinerary which we believe will get the results.
We like to stay in one camp for 2 to 3 nights, but sometimes we stay only 1 night when we move over bigger distances like from the north of the park to the south. Staying multiple nights in one camp also means that we can do early morning and late afternoon drives and relax a little in the heat of the day which allows you some time to relax next to the pool or to do some photo editing.
Below is an example of such a safari

Airport transfers can be arranged for you to be brought to and from the park. This can be done with a shuttle service or a private transfer.
There is no fixed rate due to the many variables. Depending on which options you take and the number of guests. Please enquire with us and we will work out a rate specifically for you, taking in account all your specific requirements.
Please note that Non-Photographers who share accommodation with a photographer can join the safari at a minimal rate.
You will be arriving in South Africa. At the Airport you will be met by one of our guides who will be transferring you to the world-famous Kruger National Park. From Johannesburg to the Kruger National Park is about a 4.5-hour drive (there is an option available to fly directly from Johannesburg to Skukuza in the KNP which we highly recommend). With your arrival in the KNP you will be met by one of our experienced photographic guides who will be accompanying you during your whole stay with us. From the transfer vehicle you will move to an Open Safari Vehicle (OSV) and you will take a leisurely drive through the park towards the first camp. On route to the camp, you will have the chance to spot and photograph a few of Africa’s animals like Impala, Zebra, Kudu or maybe even one of the BIG 5. Upon arrival at the camp, we will check you into your rooms where you will be overnighting for the next 2 nights. Depending on time, there will be an optional late afternoon game drive offered.
Meals are on client’s own accounts however we can incorporate it into the package as well.
Wake-up call will be a half an hour before gate opening which means in summer its 04:00 and in winter 05:00. We will then depart on a morning game drive for about 3.5 hours. In the early morning it can still be cold so please remember to dress warmly. Early morning is the best time of day to spot any of the Big 5, especially the elusive Leopards and Lions. The cats tend to retire to thick vegetation out of sight as soon as the sun becomes too hot. Upon your return from game drive, you will join your guide at the restaurant for a breakfast buffet, coffee and maybe some orange juice. After breakfast you will have time for yourself where you can visit some interesting sites in camp, browse the shop, go for a swim or just to rest. At 15:00 you will meet up with your guide again to go on an afternoon drive till gate closing time. This is also a very good time for game viewing, especially just before the sun sets. The best part of the afternoon game drive is the stunning sunset, there is sunset like an African sunset. After the game drive, you will join your guide at dinner in the restaurant. After dinner you have the option to join your guide for a night walk through camp with a powerful flashlight to spot some of the nocturnal animals that reside in camp. Some examples of these animals are Thick-tailed and Lesser Bushbabies, Water Thick-knees, Honey Badgers, Fruit Bats, Small and Large Spotted Genets, Civets or some Scrub Hares.
Meals are on client’s own accounts however we can incorporate it into the package as well.
It will be once again an early wake-up call. Today you will change camps so you will have to pack all your luggage before you head out for the game drive. You will be heading in the general direction of a picnic spot while looking for some amazing animals and plants. At around 9:30 you will be arriving at the picnic spot where you can enjoy some breakfast. Here you have the chance to get some clos-up shots of the resident birds and antelope that frequent the picnic areas. After breakfast you will continue with the game drive up to about 13:30, when you will check-in at the next camp. After check-in you have some time to relax. There will be the option to do a late afternoon drive till sunset or you can just relax in camp. Another option is to do a night safari where you can photograph some nocturnal animals.

As usual there will be an early morning game drive with breakfast at one of the nearby picnic spots. After breakfast we will head back to camp. On our return you will have ample time to explore the new camp, go for a swim or just to go and enjoy an ice cold beer on the restaurant deck that is overlooking the river. At 15:00 the last afternoon game drive will depart. When you return, your guide will prepare a traditional South African “potjie” for you with rice or “stamp mielies”. This dish usually takes a while so this is the perfect time to open bottle of wine and exchange some stories, share photos and to have a recap on the safari thus far or just to sit and listen to the sounds of the night like the iconic “whoooooop” of the hyena, roar of a lion of the cry of a Thick-tailed Bushbaby.

Wake-up call will be a half an hour before gate opening which means in summer its 04:00 and in winter 05:00. We will then depart on a morning or full day game drive depending on what our plan is and we still want to photograph before the end of our safari. If we do a morning drive, then after breakfast you will have time for yourself where you can visit some interesting sites in camp, browse the shop, go for a swim or just to rest. At 15:00 you will meet up with your guide again to go on an afternoon drive till gate closing time. Otherwise, we will stay out the whole day and have stops for breakfast and lunch on route or we can take something to eat and drink with us to maximise our time out in the field. On the last evening we like to do a traditional South African braai where your guide will prepare dinner for you. This is optional but we highly recommend it as there is no better way to reminisce about your safari than to sit around a campfire with a gin & tonic or an ice cold beer. We tell stories and have a good time all the while some good South African meat gets grilled on an open fire.

Today your wake-up call will be only at 06:00. Everything must be packed before heading out into the bush for the last time. You will be looking for animals while slowly making your way back to the exit gates of the park where you will be met by your transfer vehicle that will take you back to the airport. You will have breakfast at the restaurant before leaving the park.
